SKY's MISSION
The SKY Mission has been started to serve the needs of the orphaned and impoverished children in Kenya. As more children become orphaned daily, the need for such a mission grows. It is our hope to right now come along side established ministries reaching out the orphans and the disabled to not only grow in wisdom but also to provide encouragement, love, and support. According to the Lord’s leading, an orphanage will be built and maintained. It will be a facility where the children will grow up in Christian love and will be taught the word of God daily. They will be entrusted to Him and empowered by Him so one day they can be Christian leaders and examples in there community.
VISION
Throughout the summer, the Lord really clarified His vision for the children’s home. He showed me that I had not allowed Him to pick the location of the home, that instead I picked a place that was comfortable for me. Once I allowed Him to rearrange my thoughts about the location….something that I was so sure about before I left….He gently rearranged more of my preconceived ideas. The vision, therefore, has expanded but is more focused than it had been.
I believe the Lord wants to me to build and establish the home in an upcountry (village) area. The city and the slum of Kibera itself have a good number of NGO/NPOs and other services already working to meet the needs of the people. Therefore, I want to go to an area where few have gone before and really transform that area with the love of Jesus.
Another change the Lord made is that the home will be permanent for those who are orphaned but will be a place for rehabilitation for those who have existing relatives. They will receive a treatment plan and be re-integrated with their families at the end of that prescribed time. While they are staying at the home, they will receive different therapy, schooling, and spiritual, physical, and emotional care. We will also equip and empower the child’s family to care for them properly and hopefully one day home-based care can be established.
Otherwise, the Lord has placed in my mind the idea of having a therapy center in the compound. As well, I think it would be a great idea to establish a camp close by for teams and visitors. He also opened my eyes to the business side of things, considering different ways that the home can be self-sustaining. There is so much to consider but I must have faith that the Lord would not call me to something that He wouldn’t help me do and trust Him even when it seems like it is all so impossible. |
